Information on this website…

This website is meant to serve as a point of connection between my students, my students’ parents and myself. You can find all relevant course information including course outlines, course expectations and important dates on this website. In addition, students and parents can access this site to make sure they are aware of upcoming deadlines and tests or quizzes. This is also an important tool for students who have been away from class and are unaware of what we covered. All homework and information covered in class can be found on the site.

About me…

About me? Hmmm…What should I write here? How can I possibly condense myself into a short little description? These are the thoughts that pass through my mind as I sit here and try to compose my thoughts/ideas/philosophies into one neat and tidy little box. There are many words that I would use to describe myself but I think the words that encompass what is most important to me are that I am a teacher, a writer, a mother, and a life long learner. I embrace learning and love to learn new things. It is my daily goal to encourage my students to also love learning. Most times my efforts are successful and I am rewarded with smiles, positive comments or students who stop to chat at the end of class but there are times when I am not successful…when I look out and see that some of my students are just plain bored. These are the times when I am most inspired as, even though it may be discouraging to see my initial efforts fail, I try to learn from these instances and think of how I can possibly teach the subject matter of that lesson in a more innovative, interesting or engaging way. Some of my best lessons have come out of those moments when I have revamped an old lesson or simply threw it away and created something new and exciting.  I hope that my students are also inspired on a daily basis and that they too embrace learning in the same way that I do. This is a process that takes an entire lifetime; a process that is constantly changing and developing. I am happy to share this with all of you as we learn together.

How I got here…and where I’m going…

I have been a teacher for thirteen years and taught at Brookswood Secondary School for the last ten years. This is my first year at RE Mountain Secondary and I am excited for the change.  I graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English Literature and History and a Bachelor of Education. I currently teach English 12, Social Studies 11 and English 9. Over the last two years, I have made a commitment to evolve as an educator and utilize new forms of technology within the classroom environment. This website is intended to serve as a resource to my students and their parents in enabling them to stay connected and up to date with what is currently happening in my classroom.
